Swithun Stil, a grain merchant, became the presi- dent of Gafta, an international organization that determines the standards used by many of agricul- tural production trade in the world. Gafta’nın başkanı İstanbul’da düzenlenen resepsiyonla görevi devraldı. Dünya tarımsal ürün ticareti yapanların çoğunluğunun kullandığını standartları belirleyen uluslararası kurumun yeni başkanı tahıl tüccarı Swithun Still oldu. Cemalettin Kanaș - ISTANBUL Change of duty of position at the top of Gafta (the Grain and Feed Association) which determines the highly ac- cepted standards for international feed and grain trade took place in Istanbul at a reception. Swithun Still, a grain merchant widely known by the industry, became the new president of Gafta. The reception started with a speech briefly introducing Gafta by Jaine Chisholm Caunt, the Director General of the institution. In her speech, Caunt noted that Gafta has turned into an association determining international feed and grain trade, adding that “Gafta is an international trade association representing more than 1800 member com- panies from 95 countries in the field of trade of agricultural products worldwide.” She said Gafta’s decisions “are valid in 157 countries around the globe in line with the 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards.” Taking over the position from Jean-Christian Fages, Swit- hun Still accepted congratulations for his new post. In his speech he made at the reception, he said one of the rea- sons for organizing the reception in Istanbul was the high grain trade volume between Turkey and Russia. Many representatives from the grain and feed trade sectors attended the reception. The centennial institution that favors the removal of barriers to international trade aims to raise the num- ber of its members from around 1800 up to 2000 as soon as possible. Cemalettin Kanaș - İSTANBUL Uluslararası yem ve tahıl ticareti için genel kabul görmüş standartları belirleyen Gafta’nın (Tahıl ve Yem Ticareti Birliği) tepesindeki görev değişimi, İstanbul’da verilen bir resepsiyonda gerçekleşti. Sektörün yakın- dan tanıdığı bir tahıl tüccarı olan Swithun Still, Gafta’nın yeni başkanı oldu. Program Gafta Genel Direktörü Jaine Chisholm Caunt’un açılış konuşmasıyla başladı. Gafta’nın ulus- lararası yem ve tahıl ticaretinin standartlarını belirleyen bir dernek olarak öne çıktığının altını çizen Caunt, “Gaf- ta, dünya genelinde tarımsal ürünlerin ticareti alanında 95 ülkeden 1800’den fazla üye şirketi temsil ediyor” dedi. Caunt, Gafta kararlarının “Yabancı Hakem Karar- larının Tanınması ve İcrası Hakkındaki 1958 New York Sözleşmesi” uyarınca dünya genelinde 157 ülkede ge- çerli olduğunu söyledi. Başkanlık görevini selefi Jean-Christian Fages’ten devralan Swithun Still, tebrikleri kabul etti. Still, yaptı- ğı konuşmada programı İstanbul’da düzenlemelerinde Rusya ile Türkiye arasındaki buğday ticaretinin hacmi- nin etkili olduğunu dile getirdi. İstanbul’daki resepsiyona Türkiye ve yurt dışından tahıl ve yem ticaretiyle ilgili sektör temsilcileri katıldı. Uluslararası ticareti teşvik eden asırlık kurum 1800 ci- varında olan üye sayısını en kısa zamanda 2000’e çı- karmayı hedefliyor. Swithun Still
