In the 2021/2022 season, Bangladesh imported 83 percent of corn from India with the remainder from Brazil. Importers look to India for imports due to its geographic proximity, cheaper transpor- tation and logistics, and shorter shipment time. CORN CONSUMPTION CONTINUES TO GROW The cattle and poultry feed industries in Bangladesh are the major consumer of corn. According to the Feed Indus- tries Association of Bangladesh (FIAB), corn accounts for 60 percent of feed ingredients while soybean meal and broken rice account for 30 percent and 10 percent, respectively. Due to the higher price of corn, FIAB stated its members may re- place some corn with broken rice and bran. “However, Post believes overall corn consumption will rise due to the ex- pansion of the poultry and cattle industries in Bangladesh,” USDA said in its last report. For the 2022/2023 season, USDA forecasts total corn consumption at 7.05 million tons. haziran-temmuz döneminde hasat ettikleri yazlık mısır ye- tiştirdiği bölgeler de bulunuyor. Ancak yerel üretim, tüketim ihtiyacını karşılamıyor. Yıllık or- talama 7-8 milyon tonluk mısır talebinin yaklaşık yüzde 65’i yerel üretimle karşılanabiliyor. Mısır açığını kapatmak için dışarıdan alım yapan Güney Asya ülkesinin 2022/2023 sezonu mısır ithalat tahmini ise 2,2 milyon ton. Bangladeş için ana mısır tedarikçisi, coğrafi yakınlığı, daha ucuz nakliye imkanı ve daha kısa sevkiyat süresi nedeniyle komşu ülke Hindistan. Geçtiğimiz sezon Bang- ladeş, mısırın yüzde 83’ünü Hindistan’dan, geri kalanını ise Brezilya’dan ithal etti. Yem endüstrisinin genişlemeye devam ettiği ülkede, mısır tüketiminin de önümüzdeki dö- nemde artması bekleniyor.
