The International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) held their 23rd annual meeting to discuss global feed sector challenges and reaffirm their commitment to sustainable food and feed production. The event highlighted crucial efforts to drive transformation in the livestock and feed industries. The event gathered global stakeholders, including representatives from over 80% of global com- pound feed production, to discuss the essen- tial role of the feed sector in driving transfor- mation toward more sustainable livestock production. Opening the meeting, Mr. Thanawat Tien- sin, FAO’s Assistant Director-General, emphasi- zed the “vital role of the feed and livestock sector in driving sustainable transformation” and highlighted the need for cross-sector partnerships to tackle food security and environmental challenges. “Livestock production is a cornerstone of agrifood systems, pro- viding essential nutrition and economic opportunities worldwide,” he noted. Among the key topics discussed were the reducti- on of antimicrobial use in livestock farming, the con- vergence of global feed standards, and the role of emerging food technologies like cell-based food. The meeting also addressed sustainable feed production strategies and environmental sustainability initiatives, particularly in East Africa. Both IFIF and FAO reaffir- med their commitment to supporting the global feed industry in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
