The increase in animal production will require an additional amount of feed to be produced. The challenge is not only to meet the growing demand for feed, but to ensure its safety. Hayvan yemi, küresel gıda endüstrisinde öncü bir rol oynamaktadır ve gü- venli ve uygun fiyatlı hayvansal proteinlerin sürdürülebilir üretimini sağla- mak için en büyük ve en önemli bileşendir. Hayvansal üretimdeki artış, ilave miktarda yem üretilmesini gerektirecektir. Buradaki problem sadece artan yem talebini karşılamak değil, aynı zamanda güvenliğini de sağlamaktır. YEM GÜVENLİĞİ Animal feed plays a leading role in the global food industry and it is the largest and most im- portant component to ensure the sustainable production of safe and affordable animal pro- teins. Rapidly growing populations, along with increased urbanization and income, is expected to rise the consumption of animal products by 70% in 2050. The increase in animal production will require an additional amount of feed to be produced. The challenge is not only to meet the growing demand for feed, but to ensure its safety. Feed safety is a prerequisite for food safety and human health, as well as a necessity for ani- mal health and welfare. It is a component of ac- cess to trade, income generation and economic sustainability. In addition, it contributes to feed and food security and decreases feed losses. In fact, feed is an integral part of the food chain and its safety has been recognized as a shared value and a shared responsibility. Feed produc- tion must thus be subject, in a similar manner as food production, to the quality assurance of integrated food safety systems. In a period that is placed on full alert due to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that our concerns out health have increased. We should place maintain the emphasis on animal health and welfare on top of the human health. In this context, sensitive and instant measurement applications and cooperation between political structures are significant. Therefore, special at- tention was paid to the sharing of measurement and know-how in the content of our cover story. Ülke nüfuslarının hızla bü- yümesi, artan kentleşme ve gelir ile birlikte, 2050 yılında hayvansal ürün tüketiminin %70 oranında artması beklenmektedir. Hayvansal üretimdeki artış ilave miktarda yem üretilme- sini gerekecektir. Buradaki problem sadece artan yem talebini karşılamak değil, aynı za- manda güvenliğini de sağlamaktır. Yem güvenliği; gıda güvenliği ve insan sağlı- ğı için olduğu kadar hayvan sağlığı ve refahı için de bir ön koşuldur. Ticarete erişimin, gelir elde etmenin ve ekonomik sürdürülebilirliğin bir bile- şenidir. Ayrıca yem ve gıda güvencesine katkıda bulunur ve yem kayıplarını azaltır. Aslında yem, gıda zincirinin ayrılmaz bir parçasıdır ve yem gü- venliği ortak bir değer ve ortak bir sorumluluk olarak kabul edilmiştir. Dolayısıyla yem üretimi de gıda üretimi gibi, entegre gıda güvenliği sistem- lerinin kalite güvencesine tabi olmalıdır. Ölümcül COVID-19 salgını nedeniyle tüm ülkelerin alarm hâlinde olduğu bir dönem- de, sağlık konusundaki kaygılarımızın da hat safhaya çıktığı açıktır. İnsan sağlığı üzerine durduğumuz kadar hayvan sağlığı ve refahı üzerinde de durmaya devam etmeliyiz. Bu bağlamda hassas ve hızlı ölçümler ve siyasi yapılar arası işbirliği oldukça önemli. Bu ne- denle kapak dosyamızın içeriğinde ölçüm ve know-how paylaşımına özel önem verildi. FEED SAFETY
