One of them is in- sects, which can be defined as the chain of the food cycle that has not been sufficiently brought to the industry. The EU has previously authorized the use of insect proteins in aquaculture feeds in 2017. The institution expanded this authorization last month paving the way for the use of insect protein in poultry and pig feeds. Considering poultry are insectivorous and por- cine animals are omnivorous, it is thought that the decision will not pose any health problem. The authorization, which will en- ter into force in September, is expected to further develop the insect feed sector, which is currently not at the top of the feed types list. We had the opportunity to interview Christophe Derrien, Secre- tary-General of IPIFF, which 'represents the interests of the insect production sector towards EU policymakers, European stakehold- ers and citizens'. Bunlardan biri de gıda döngüsünün endüstriye yeteri kadar kazandırılmamış olan zinciri olarak ifade edebilece- ğimiz böcekler. 2017 yılında su ürünleri yemlerinde böcek prote- inlerinin kullanımına izin veren AB, geçen ay bu izni genişleterek kanatlı hayvan ve domuz yemlerinde de böcek proteini kullanımı- nın önünü açtı. Kanatlı hayvanların normalde de böceklerle bes- lendiği, domuzların ise omnivor oldukları düşünüldüğünde kararın sağlık açısından bir sorun teşkil etmeyeceği düşünülüyor. Eylül ayı içerisinde yürürlüğe girecek iznin, şimdilik diğer yem türlerine kıyasla geri planda bulunan böcek yemi sektörünü daha da geliş- tirmesi bekleniyor. Böcek üretim sektörünün çıkarlarını AB politika yapıcılarına, Av- rupalı paydaşlara ve vatandaşlara karşı temsil eden IPIFF’ın Genel Sekreteri Christophe Derrien ile röportaj yapma imkânı bulduk.
