Avrupa Komisyonu’na göre yem katkı maddele- ri yemin veya hayvansal ürünün kalitesini arttırmak veya yem materyalinin sindirimini arttırarak hayvan- ların sağlığını ve performansını iyileştirmek amacı ile hayvan beslemede kullanılan maddeler olarak tanım- lanmaktadır. Öncelikle, yem katkı maddesi olarak tanımlanan bir materyalin etkisi bilimsel metotlar ile ortaya konula- bilir olmalıdır. Bununla birlikte hem yemlerde hem de elde edilen hayvansal ürünlerde saptanabilir olmaları önemli bir husustur. In addition to the desired nutritional value, taste, texture and shelf life, it is necessary to use certain spe- cial substances in order to provide the highest benefit. Feed additives have been classified in accordance with the properties of the compounds needed by the animal and expectations from the feed.
